On April 24, retired Navy Rear Admiral Jay DeLoach, VP of the NC Sons of the American Revolution New Bern Chapter, gave a presentation at the Kinston-Lenoir County Civil War Round Table (KLCCWRT) on “Admiral Farragut – The North Carolina and Spanish Family Connections”. Admiral David G. Farragut was the U.S. Navy’s first admiral. His mother, Elizabeth Shine, was born and raised in Kinston. His father Jorge Ferragut, anglicized to George Farragut, was a Spaniard who came to America in 1776 to fight in the American Revolution as a privateersman, the South Carolina State Navy, the SC militia, and then the NC militia.
